The longer damaged areas are left untreated, the greater the chance that moisture can penetrate through the asphalt and into the base, stone, or subgrade. Once those underlying layers are compromised, repairs can become significantly more extensive and costly.

WHY IT MATTERS
Not every crack or pothole needs the same fix. Surface cracks, potholes, settlement, and alligator cracking can look similar from the parking lot, but the cause may be water, a weak base, heavy truck traffic, or movement around a catch basin or utility structure. Crack sealing works for certain cracks, but it won't correct alligator cracking caused by a loss of support underneath.
When patching is the right call, how it's done determines how long it lasts. Tolliver & Curl marks the failed area out to sound pavement, removes the damaged asphalt and any unstable base, and rebuilds the section with compacted stone and new asphalt. Edges are cut clean and sealed, and the patch is compacted flush so it drains with the rest of the lot.
Done right and done early, repairs keep damage contained and preserve the pavement that still has useful life. When failures are widespread, we'll tell you if resurfacing or reconstruction makes more financial sense than continued patching.
